Some movies are such a big deal that they can't be released to the theater just once, but periodically must be released again and again to remind everyone of their importance. Often times these re-releases are for special occasions or are accompanied by some change in format or with the addition of new scenes, but honestly these are just cheap excuses to get the movie back in the theater. Did they add 3D to this movie? Yes. Did the 3D add anything to this movie? No, 3D doesn't really add much to any movie. Does this in any way make this movie less worthwhile to see? No, of course not...I mean this is one of the most important cinematic experiences that anyone can have and it helped introduce to the world the goal of modern molecular biology so whether they try and add some new flair to it or not, it is worth your time just as it was 20 years ago. Man, 20 years ago...can you believe it? This is the flick that made me think that science could be cool and now 20 years later it is reminding me once again that its pretty cool. Now look at me! I made it and I am a geneticist, just like the dudes in this movie that tampered with nature with disastrous results! Now if we could just get genetics to cooperate and let us make a dinosaur! Maybe in another 20 years...probably not, but hey, life finds a way.
