This year, in what is sure to become an annual holiday traditional, I brought together everyone's love of Christmas and love of tacos to create Christmas tacos. It was a very special evening. Let me run down how it works. First you gather your chefs.
I handled the pork tacos and Jon made some chicken ones. He also made some fajita fixens for the tacos while I added a tomatillo ranch dressing and some flan for dessert. After that we relied on others to bring the rest and they came through with beans, rice, multiple salsas, chips, cookies and drinks.
Of course all these dishes came with guests. Throughout the evening we probably catered to about 50 to 60 people in total. It was truly a Christmas taco miracle!
Of course Christmas tacos are accompanied by a variety of activities. Like Christmas itself, mistletoe is a common feature with Christmas tacos.
The way it works is one person stands underneath it awkwardly while everyone notices that he/she is underneath it. They joke about who will ultimately go and provide the mistletoe kiss that is demanded while the individual continues to stand awkwardly. Eventually everyone seems to lose interest leaving the awkward individual underneath the mistletoe without having collected the requisite kiss that law requires. At this point occasionally another party enters to try and convince someone, anyone to please provide the poor, awkward individual with a kiss.
I tried my best Jon, but the fish just weren't biting. Fortunately not all of us, namely myself, remained under the mistletoe kissless. In fact I came out quite well (another Christmas taco miracle!). My secret? You gotta give if you expect to receive and receive I did! Someone even sneaked a real peach of a kiss out of the whole thing. Bravo!
Like Festivus, Christmas tacos also come with a sort of feat of strength. This comes in the form of the left leg wall lift. It is just what it says and in a single go you see who can lift their leg highest on the wall.
After defeating Jon we brought in Adam to see how he stacked up.
Try as they might, even using their hands, they could not beat ol' long legged Tommy!
Lastly, like any other time in my house a dance is always just around the corner. Once again this took place in the kitchen. Lots of magic happening in the kitchen that evening. First the tacos were made there, then the mistletoe hung in it's entry way, and finally a roaring dance party appeared out of nowhere.
It was probably the best Christmas taco party of all time! It was also the first ever held. Just how good was it?
