Movie Review "Iron Man"

I just saw "Iron Man" last night. As I posted just a little bit ago this was one of the movies I definitely planned on seeing. This was pretty much based on the trailer full of robots, hard rock, and explosions. Plus on the old Captain America and the Avengers arcade game I always picked to be Iron Man. Gotta say...it didn't really disappoint. This is one of the better comic book movies ever made, still not the best, but one of the best. It is kind of like Spiderman if Spiderman wasn't sissy and didnt have some whiny girlfriend and if he wore a yellow and gold robot suit that let him fly and shoot missiles. Ok so it is nothing like Spiderman. It is way better than sissy Spiderman. Robert Downey Jr. does a terrific job in the lead role as arrogant Tony Stark/Iron Man. The movie really is great, but be careful that you don't set the expectations too high. Afterall it is still a comic book movie. Here's its strengths:

1 - Casting. As I said Robert Downey Jr. is great, but everyone else fits in really well. Jeff Bridges almost achieves cartoonish super-villainy and he is sporting a really cool beard. Gwyneth Paltrow looks great. Really great. Terrence Howard is ok I guess.

2 - Men in robot suits. And these suits have guns hidden all over on them and rocket thrusters. And the effects are great! Watching Iron Man fly around was really fun.

3 - The men in these robot suits blow stuff up. Stuff like tanks.

4 - Heavy Metal. It begins with "Back in Black". It was a great beginning.

Here are my only complaints:

1 - Iron Man should be on the screen a lot more. You really only see him in action maybe 3 times and not shockingly those are the best 3 parts. Origin stories have a hard time giving the hero enough screen time. Kind of like how in the Hulk, the Hulk was only really on the screen for about 30 minutes in a 2 and half hour movie. The scenes he was in were great, but the scenes that didn't have the Hulk in them were not so hot. Iron Man doesn't suffer from this problem quite as much since the scenes without Iron Man are still ok because of Downey Jr., but still more Iron Man blowing stuff up would make the movie better.

2 - More hard rock. It has a "hard rock" style soundtrack, but it really should have a ton of hard rock hits in there like in the trailer. Other than "Back and Black" and "Iron Man" at the end there is almost nothing else just some subdued hard rock-like soundtrack by some composer guy.

3 - Most everything of note is in the trailer. So if you liked the trailer you will probably like this.

All in all this was a great flick. The summer is off to a great start.
